With the arrival of autumn, worse weather and rainy days it seems that the plans with the smallest of the family are complicated. Even so, this time also has its charms and a characteristic landscape, being able to find destinations and activities for the little ones.
Autumn is characterized by the collection of products typical of this time such as chestnuts. We can take advantage of the non-rainy days to carry out this activity as a family. Centennial Soutos of our land such as the spectacular Fraga de Catasós in Lalín, or the Souto de Rozabales in Manzaneda in Ourense where the famous and thousand-year-old Castaño de Pumbariños, are ideal settings for this practice. They are joined by the O Courel area; In the Moreda area, next to the O Courel interpretation center, there is a route that can be done with children, selecting a small section, and which runs under chestnut trees. In this same destination we can also enjoy the Festa da Castaña, declared a festival of tourist interest in Galicia.
Another of the characteristic products of this season are mushrooms. The mountains of O Morrazo and much of the Salnés region, the Catasós forests in Lalín, the Sarria region or the municipality of O Incio are places where collecting mushrooms is part of the daily routine of the autumn season and lasts until well entered the month of November.
Honey also stands out in autumn, being beekeeping an activity that usually attracts the attention of the little ones. In Arzúa you will find "Centro de Divulgación do Queixo e do Mel de Arzúa", where in addition to learning about bees and hives, there are samples of cheeses from the Arzúa-Ulloa Designation of Origin.
And of course, numerous routes of low difficulty to do with children. Armea in Ourense, a route of low difficulty, but of great interest and of great “historical, archaeological and legendary” value. The route of the Muíños dos Chancís (Xabrega River) in Sober (Lugo), circular and very simple that does not reach 2 kilometers, a kilometer and a half for the best ethnography. The Mao River Footbridges in Parada de Sil, Fervenza da Toxa in Silleda, one of the most famous waterfalls in Galician territory or the Enchanted Forest in Morrazo are just some examples to discover Galicia as a family.
