“At Christmas we have more time to plan as a family, so we propose some experiences to live Christmas in Galicia.”

Christmas is getting closer and closer, dates that make the little ones in each house especially excited. In addition, they are school holidays dates, having more time to make plans as a family. For this reason, in this post we propose some experiences to live Christmas in Galicia.

Something that attracts the attention of children and, not so children, are the Christmas decorations and lights. For a few years now, the city that stands out in this regard is Vigo, where Christmas 2021 is already underway. Eleven million led lights, attractions on all four sides, giant new and established decorations, Christmas carols everywhere, Christmas markets ... the list is endless. If you want to immerse yourself in a Christmas atmosphere, visiting this city is a good option. But not only Vigo has Christmas decorations. Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña or Pontevedra are also good alternatives to experience the Christmas atmosphere walking through its streets.

Another alternative is to visit children's shows. Proof of this is the PequeÁrtiko festival in its 7th Christmas edition at the Ártika room in Vigo with the best theater programming for family and children (from December 18 to 31). PequeÁrtiko is a festival so that the little ones and their families can enjoy children's theater, shows, music, puppets, clowns ... and that each year that passes is consolidated having more repercussion in Galicia. In A Coruña, the British pianist and writer James Rhodes will welcome Christmas on December 1 at the Marineda City shopping center in A Coruña, with a small recital on the occasion of the lighting ceremony for this center. Also in A Coruña, from December 28 to 30, you can attend the Christmas Circus at the Colón Theater.

Nativity scenes cannot be absent on these dates either. There are several that you can visit in Galicia, such as the electronic Nativity Scene in Begonte (Lugo), the Nativity Scene of Señor José in Parada de Sil (Ourense), the Nativity Scene of the Third Order of Ferrol (A Coruña) or the Family Nativity Scene in Conxo (Santiago de Compostela).

Another alternative to enjoy Christmas is a visit to the Christmas markets. There are several that you will find in the Galician cities, in Vigo, A Coruña, Ourense, Pontevedra, Lugo and Santiago de Compostela. Nor can you miss visits to royal pages and Santa Claus, which you will also find in these cities.

And not only the big cities are worth visiting. There are many other villas that are worth visiting at Christmas, with their particular Christmas decorations, with fewer resources, but a lot of enthusiasm and creativity. Allariz in Ourense, Sanxenxo or Combarro in Pontevedra, Oleiros in A Coruña or Monforte de Lemos in Lugo are alternatives to get away and experience Christmas.
